Romancing Florals : Textiles for Apparel

The project involved creating a range of fabrics for apparel, using traditional textile techniques for a contemporary fashion label. A study of brand philosophy, clientele and market followed, with forecast study and generation of moodboard.

This led the design process into a poetic interpretation of traditional textiles. ‘Filtered Florals’ was the theme that helped redefine traditional wovens(handloom weaving of linens in Bhagalpur; cotton khadi in Murshidabad; Jamdani and Tangalia, block printing and embroideries (adda and hand) in a contemporary, innovative way – thereby giving the techniques a fresh look. A romantic pastel colour palette in cottons and linens formed a range of engineered borders, stripes, checks and solids. English Florals were woven in Jamdani and Tangalia.

Floral wood blocks were prepared and filtered to give a painterly feeling. Delicate details of tonal floral embroideries were added – resulting in a collection of block printed summer dresses, woven linen dress jackets, embroidered khadi tops and summer coats with delicate details of embroideries.
