C o-creation with the weavers of Manipur

The objective was to develop a range of fabrics for women’s wear apparel and home furnishing textiles with identified craft clusters for the client’s Spring Summer collection. The project, along with the designing, would also focus on identifying and mapping skills, conducting workshops with artisans and documenting the process.

The target customers were identified as urban women between 25 and 45 years and a background study was carried out. The design process involved understanding the project brief and scope; market research; craft cluster study; analysis and synthesis; developing design direction; sampling and the final design. The methodology included books, internet, field visits and meeting with experts. Workshops were also conducted for the artisans. Final deliverables comprised a range of placement motif based fabric samples, placement woven cushion covers and stoles inspired from geometric art and architecture.
