diploma project
Woven Silk and Wool textiles from “Devbhumi”
The project began with a brief to develop two collections for rugs, throws and stoles. An NGO’s infrastructure, craftsmen, strengths, skills, capabilities, challenges and constraints were examined; along with existing designs and design language. Market research was conducted to study the market standing and competitors. A SWOT analysis was also carried out.
The first collection was for a luxury retail brand’s FW 2013-14 collection, under the themes ‘Iridescence’ and ‘Fluidity.’ Basic twill weave combined silk, wool and linen yarns in various colorful ways. The second and third collections’ themes (color palette consisting of shades of Indigo and inspired from the nature, respectively) were ‘Contrast and Balance’ and ‘From the land of Gods.’
The product outcome were ten stoles in silk, wool and linen for the luxury store; four throws and cushions, woven with local Harsil wool and four sets of Kids blankets and pillow sets, made using waste yarn.
