“PARADISE POETRY” Contemporary Textiles for Home
The project required developing a range of home furnishing fabrics that would be showcased at a fair in Italy. The first guideline design was to focus on natural, botanical elements. Trending on similar lines, the first concept, ‘BIRDS OF PARADISE,’ explored the organic and mysterious wilderness of tropical jungles with an exotic glam twist. The flora and fauna of the rainforests became the inspiration.
The second concept was ‘PATCHWORK POETRY’ where a mix of old dobby techniques (stripes, checks, houndstooth) were given a contemporary look. The focus was to create fabrics bearing strong, traditional essence with contemporary aesthetics.
The collection was developed keeping in mind the end product (heavy to medium weight fabrics for upholstery and lightweight fabrics for drapes) and the sponsor’s sensitivity. The exploration involved understanding different techniques and materials; developing each fabric, keeping in mind different yarns and their blends; different weaves, creating different textural surfaces.
