Textiles in space
Two textile art pieces were made representing the theme of a house, Hridayaakash. The characteristic of the space had to be understood, limitations identified and functions duly noted to aid a design intervention in purely aesthetic terms. Apart from the space, the beliefs and culture of the residents had to be taken into account during concept development.
For the first project, the inspiration was taken from Indian seasons. This would be displayed on the wall. For the second project, the space given was the atrium with a glass roof. This space was completely different from the first one. The variation in character enabled the fabric as a material to play different roles in each of these spaces. Various explorations were tried, which were taken forward based on their workability and aesthetics.
