Aranya Naturals: Dyeing From Discards Of Nature
This project was about exploring a world of natural dyes from forest discards of Munnar, Kerala. The concept was to bring into awareness, not only the existence of natural coloring, but to incorporate the process of recycling discards into a formative design which would enable the craftsperson to understand, enable, and comprehend nature in terms of form, color and composition.
The journey of this document searches for a meaning lost in nature in relation to modern day consumers who are oblivious to the capacity and exuberance of the colors that our plants and trees can provide us.
It looks into the various techniques and possibilities of design introspection in tie-dye, hand block printing, wax printing and arashi, arising from these methods used by the sponsor; by studying the relation between plants and us. The concepts are a direct extraction from the environment in and around Munnar.
