ORIGAMI INSTALLATION - MAKING COLLAPSIBLE PARTITIONS WITH TEXTILE
The objective was to develop designs for installations at the Galeecha showroom by experimenting with various textile techniques. The idea was to break away from conventional use of fabrics by using carpets and other raw materials like blinds fabric.
A thorough site analysis was conducted and the space analysed for its potential architectural capabilities. The direction was narrowed down and conceptualisation began.
Through a journey of explorations and experimentation, analysing and improvising on the ideas and techniques, a continuous processes of conscious hit and trial methods, origami techniques were explored.
Origami patterns were created to suit the required model following which, their paper models were made. Three-dimensional drawings of the site were made and basic book techniques deconstructed. Various techniques were tried with paper and actual materials. The idea then evolved to suit practicality and achieve desired results. The final installation size was further simplified.
