Visual Management

This project was presented as an opportunity to validate the monetary value that design brings to the existing corporate sector. Audit was done at one of the manufacturing plants to validate the baseline of the design brief. It was seen that visual management was at fifty percent of the total achievable target and needed to be re-looked at for eighty percent. Further study and research resulted in four directions of design intervention – wayfinding, safety, maintenance and production.

Core problems were studied and areas identified where visual management could impact the overall manufacturing process. Mock-ups for direction were designed, subjected to multiple check points and iterated. The project culminated in final implementation, which validated the need for design and gave new definition of design value in terms of monetary benefit. Different methods were also used to analyse profits that would be generated, tangible and intangible.
