Tackling Stains - A Hand-held Stain Removal Device

The project brief was to come up with a new innovative fabric stain removal format, more efficient and convenient for the user. The stain removal formulation was provided by the sponsor and the challenge was to come up with a working prototype of an innovative way of using the formulation to remove stains.

Research and understanding of the groundwork was followed by market study, competitor study, research, user surveys etc. to understand the current scenario in the stain removal market. The focus was on creating an innovative working prototype; so validation and establishing proof of concept was critical. The principle of ‘heat enhancing stain removal’ drove the ideation and prototyping ahead.

The final deliverable was a hand-held device which works as a combination of an applicator – applying heated formulation at the point of stain and a scrubber – scrubbing the local stained area after applying the formulation.
