Illuminating Emotions: Lighting System for Home appliances

The project aims to build an understanding between culture, color, lights, emotions and mutual associations to generate lighting conditions, evoking positive emotions. Light conditions are incorporated in home appliances (microwave, refrigerator, washing machine) to enhance user experience and promote usability.

The project focuses on identifying user experience paradigms, scenarios and designing methodologies for next generation appliances through light. It involves research on color associations, lighting systems, factors influencing color and lighting preferences leading to emotional and physical behavior – followed by studying appliances; understanding the product, product-user interaction to come up with lighting design intervention.
Light incorporation is explored in refrigerators and washing machines to provide solutions. Different lighting conditions in the microwave are created for functional and visual value addition, having positive user impact. Light play enhances overall cooking experience. The product brings out positive feelings and represses negative feelings. It encourages well being, healing, and creating positive emotions.
