Design of a Rotary Evaporator

The project consisted of a revamp of the existing rotary evaporator prototype in terms of styling, form added functionality and features. The existing prototype was studied and a list of possible improvements made. A visit was made to an existing evaporator from a competitor. A few patents were studied and innovations explored. A brainstorming session was conducted over patent ideas collected.

An experiment was made, which takes into account the movement of the hot tub. To explain this, a small animatic was made. Ideation sketches of concepts, configurations and form language possible for the rotovap were made. ideas were shown and feedbacks received.

Feedback led to further refinement of form and functional requirements of the proposed concepts. A second presentation was made. This process was repeated till agreement was reached. The form was tested for manufacturing and details were resolved. Engineering followed and the final prototype was made.
