Next Generation Wearable Device for Distribution Centre (DC)
The brief involved design intervention to leverage a wearable device platform for the sponsor; to enhance productivity and user experience in a distribution center by identifying grey areas and satisfying them through innovation.
Business Driver: hands-free scanning enables productivity (Inventory management, Order Picking); building blocks already available with sponsor; PoV on wearable computing; discussions with business and PoC.
With respect to design, the project is a comprehensive approach towards designing a wearable data-acquisition device for order pickers in a distribution centers / warehouses. Various issues affecting the productivity were identified through contextual inquiry and interviews. These Issues were resolved through a systematic design process. A systematic approach of research enabled a better understanding of the product to be designed with respect to the position in the market where it would fit In.
