An Experimental Publication on Bharatanatyam

In an evolving environment, it has become necessary to focus on sustaining tradition and evolving it, allowing newer forms of expression to emerge from technological advancement paired with arts.

Undertaken by BLOT!, an audiovisual collective and an innovation consultancy, the project covered an initiative for creating an immersive experience that augments classical dance with digital culture and new media; by collaborating with Bharatanatyam exponent, Jayalakshmi Eshwar. This collaboration included the development of content and vision for an experimental publication on Bharatanatyam.

With research centred around contemporary representation of classical dance(focusing on processes and aspects of a dancer, bringing to light how new contexts can be transformed to incorporate classical technique) and around first person autobiographical accounts of Jayalakshmi, this project aimed to look at the art form as a key to innovative thinking and to employ it creatively in a relevant, fast-changing urban context.
