My diploma project was an animation film which recounted the story of a motherless little princess who escaped the trap set by her uncle trying to take advantage of her loneliness and how the princess’ father’s trust gave her the courage to expose the pervert uncle. The objective of this film was to create awareness among the children and caution of such incidents. It also meant to inspire them to be brave if they ever fall in an abuse situation and report the incident to their parents.
The larger than life quality of fairy tales makes them fascinating to the children. This made me use the medium of a fairy tale for my animation film which I considered the best option to communicate the message. I wrote two versions of a story followed by a script. Being interested in theatre, my story turned out to be more dialogue and situation based. I storyboarded this script and then used the storyboard frames for preparing the animatic. I recorded the dialogue first and then sourced and partially created the incidental sounds and music tracks. I decided to make my film in 3D using Maya software. I modelled the princess character in Maya and worked on the blend shapes and basic texturing. I also explored Maya hair and cloth for the same character. This animation film is meant for the children in the age group 4-9 years going to Primary Schools. Changing the society overnight is not possible by a single animation film maker. Nevertheless through my work I tried to reach out and sensitize as many people as possible and appeal to their conscience regarding this sensitive issue. |
