My diploma project was part of “Turning the Tide”, a campaign on climate change solutions by TERI. It aimed at sensitizing the audience through a series of Public Service Messages on Television about our planet’s environment and empower the viewers to deal with climate change at the personal level.
For my diploma project, I created three such Public Service Messages using the medium of animation. The animation films were titled:
1. Flow: An animation film highlighting the significance of water
2. The Hare and the Tortoise: An animation encouraging the use of CFL in place of normal incandescent bulbs and
3. The Princess’ Pool Date: Another animation to promote car-pooling whenever possible
The objective of my films was to create awareness about climate change and to inform and motivate viewers by giving green tips and tangible solutions for the greening of the planet.
Through this project, I explored three totally different media viz. Gel (experimental), Flash and Claymation. In “Flow”, just like water flows, life forms flow from one to another. “The Hare and the Tortoise” is an analogy to the classic fable. “Princess’ Pool Date” is done in a street play fashion, with a small rhyme building up the story and giving the message in the end. Since my films dealt with a universal problem, they were meant for the audience at large.
This project has been quite enriching and stimulating. Besides adding three films to my showreel, it also added the strength and confidence in me to face and overcome problems. Having worked on a client project, I inculcated respect for deadlines and developed the ability to take critical feedback. |
