My diploma film was meant to create awareness about the situation in which an embarking passenger struggles to make room in the crowded local train which already has too many people in that limited space. The characters in my animation film convey the story of a city life through the depiction of a busy local train. The people already present in the train consider the new entrant as crowd or burden. When the new entrant succeeds in his effort to make room, he considers the newer passengers as crowd.
To visualize this film, I visited Mumbai to have a fresh look at the railway platforms, trains and people around them and took lots of photographs. I travelled by local trains, talked to the people about their first hand experience with Mumbai local trains. I had three alternate storylines which I refined to develop a script. I started working on my storyboard in the 16:9 format. Based on this storyboard, I created the animatic. Then I started working on the sound. I decided to use the sound of mridangam to highlight my characters’ movements and for the specific moments of the film. I used the pen tablet to draw my animation. I drew in Adobe Photoshop and used the stamp effect. Making animation has never been a cake walk. To execute my idea into a film I had to put in sheer hard work for which there was no alternative. This project gave me confidence and reassured that I can perform even better and contribute to animation film-making. |
