A seventy-year-old man and his dog ritually enjoyed their long walk at night through
the town. The man had been struggling with Alzheimer for a decade. One day the old
man came to terms with his bouts of amnesia and decided to abandon his dog and
gracefully accepted end of his sojourn. He realized that loss like death if it came at right,
could be sublime. This film was an attempt to put into practice all that I have learnt
about animation and to be able to deal with the challenges faced during the course of
executing an animated film. I did my research on Alzheimer’s disease. I wrote a script/
shot breakdown based on which I made a storyboard in the 16:9 format. There were
about three drafts of the storyboard. The film was shot during dusk and gradually turned
into night. The street lamps were the only source of light in the exterior shots. I created
a 3D model of the house interior to help me visualise the shots. The characters were
animated using traditional hand-drawn animation. The final treatment is in greyscale
for consistency in colour, lighting and texture. The software used for this project were
Photoshop, Maya, After Effects and Corel Painter. The film was targeted to people who
had past their youth and dealt with their lives after the worldly responsibilities were
fulfilled. During the making of this film I improved my understanding of storytelling
through moving images and sound. I have now a better grasp over technical details
through trial and error. |
