There was a man bull in a forest, hacking down a tree. Outside the forest a child ran
around chasing a bird. The child sat at the base of a tree playing, when the man bull
approached him with an axe in his hand and a stump on his shoulder. He gently placed
his bull mask on the boy’s head who then ran around with it. The idea for the story
and design of my diploma film was drawn from traditions of storytelling inherent in
folklore. It was built up on another project I started a year back. Since I was dealing
with primitive mythology, I thought it appropriate to study symbolic/representational art
from ancient civilizations. I chose to use a silhouette treatment for my film. For this, the
use of perspective was not necessary. The character designs were a collage of various
influences. I made rough sketches of the buildings and landscape, and then modelled
these in Google Sketchup in 3d. The storyboard consists of these rough sketches. The
final method of animation was flat puppet animation done in Adobe After Effects with
some hand drawn animation incorporated in it. I am grateful to my family for supporting
me throughout, and especially to my brother who helped out a lot with the architectural
aspects of this project. |
