My diploma film is about a boy who dreams of becoming a fisherman like his father. Due to practical reasons, the father says 'no' to his son. My story deals with the opposition the boy faces and how he finally achieves his goal. Through my film I have tried to create awareness about the traditional fishing community of Mangalore and the hardships and challenges faced by them, such as motorized trawlers which are steadily depleting sea-resources.
I did my initial research in a fishing village in Mangalore. The script, the storyboard and the character designs were finalized thereafter. I explored a variety of media like colour pencils, charcoal, watercolour, oil on glass and mixed media and finally settled on pencils and watercolour as my final treatment. The compositing was carried out using Adobe Premiere. This film is meant for a wide range of audience.
Through this project, I learnt a lot about the animation film making process. This is an extremely labour intensive process, one that demands a lot from the animation designer. Since the animation film making spans several months, many factors influence the final outcome. After this project, I am more proficient in spotting my own mistakes and correcting them. At the end of this learning process, I have learnt what it means to have an idea, and how to convert it into something so very tangible which is an animation film. |
