AAJICHA CHASHMA

Chikloo’s granny can hardly see through her old scratched glasses. Armed with 500 rupees and a thirst for adventure, Chikloo and granny set off to buy a new pair of glasses from a town called Chikhaldara. Along the way, in the mountains, they get drenched in rain, run into mules and encounter a terrible landslide. After granny’s eye check-up, she sees Chikloo clearly for the first time in years. On the bus returning home, granny eagerly takes the window seat and marvels at the sights she sees with her new eyes.


Ruskin Bond’s story ‘Getting Granny’s Glasses’ was adapted for this film as the primary inspiration. Sparse and static shots show the simplicity of daily routine life. The space and setting were major elements in the story-telling, with scenes creating the mood of a typical isolated village. The dialogues reflect the special bond between Chikloo and granny.
