FICTION FILM - 'VERMILION'
‘Vermilion’ is a film about an alternative reality, where all are forced to wear instruments that control them. It is a classic Orwellian dystopia that explores the notions of free will and control in a society that wants to be ‘safe’ from crime, violence and hate—at the cost of freedom and free thought.
It is based on a short story by Kurt Vonnegut called ‘Harrison Bergeron.’ While Vonnegut speaks of equality and the notion of leadership in a post 1960’s America, it might be more apt to consider the state of media today,
The protagonists, George (played by Tom Alter) and Banu (played by Preeti Bhatt) are in a dank, dark world, trapped inside their own homes and heads. It is up to the George’s character to choose his fate: will he submit to mind control, or will he fight?
