RAANACHI PAKHARA (THE FREE SPIRITS)
The objective is to generate interest and appreciation for the unique and adventurous journey of the Siddi tribe, originally from Africa; staying in India for centuries now. The aim also to explore their culture and understand their secret life in the forest. The film deals with their stories and incorporates their thoughts on being Indians of African origin.
This documentary has an ethnographic approach, while being informative, inter-spaced with personal stories and beautiful imagery. It is interactive with interviews, people telling their everyday stories,and focuses on issues the Siddis have been battling for; while covering their experiences with the outside world.
The people working for the community and their rights explain the current scenario. Their experience sheds light on the tribe’s mysterious life and thrilling history. The documentary is juxtaposed with the captivating sight of beautiful carpets of green fields divided by small colonies of the Siddhis.
