Kintsukuroi: A Short Fiction Film

The story revolves around this situation between the couple wherein they are going through a rough patch in their marriage. They are distanced from each other both emotionally and physically. Having not experienced this earlier, their daughter, Avani, is devastated. She desperately wants to do something to better the situation between the two of them but doesn’t really know how. The film deals with the relationship between the couple and of the parents with their daughter.

The film is based on a Japanese word, ‘kintsukuroi’ or the art of repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer resin. As a philosophy, breakage and repair become part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Hence the Japanese believe that an object becomes more beautiful by being broken.
