Open Source Furniture Design
The intention of this project is to create ‘Open Source’ designs for wooden furniture. The primary target audience are young, single urban professionals. The solutions, based on research and user study, will:
(a) Relate to everyday furniture items; (b) represent excellent quality of design and efficient usage of material; (c) use material types easily available in India; (d) provide clear, step-by-step instructions that can easily be understood by the client, who can then brief the carpenter; (e) be available for free download from a specially created website.
The outcome of the project covers four designs for home; viz. Eatable (a dining table with simple knock-down joineries); Studi (a study table set that comprises a table, stool and storage unit); Bricks (a book rack concept developed on constructing everyday things by piling up) and Triad (a single-seater sofa that fits into an urban set-up with space constraints).
