diploma project
Retreat Rattan Furniture For Semi-Open Spaces
The project involved developing a new range of cane furniture which involved seating and a table.
One of the highlights of the design brief was to combine wood with cane showing the contrasting nature of the two materials. The project began with exploring cane (Indian and Indonesian), exploiting the various techniques to the fullest. It was figured out that the material has lot of potential to achieve something new.
Fusing wood became an antithetical element which could reflect the design in a different manner to fill up the space, by being more than just a furniture piece. The material was used creatively to hold on to the same design language as the sponsor’s. The entire project involved developing final manufacturing details and determining an ideal manufacturing processes for the future.
