Iqrup + Ritz Contemporary - Colonial Residential Furniture Series
The brief was to design a contemporary-colonial furniture series; inclusive of a storage cabinet, dining sideboard, study chair and armchair in solid steam beech wood and steam beech veneer; inspired from Indo-colonial furniture styles.
Thorough research was conducted including: (i) a study of Indian and UK competitors (understanding business models of each firm, background and history, manufacturers, warehouse locations, products, price and materials used); (ii) a study of English furniture styles from the 1600s to early 1900’s; (iii) current global market trends; competitor websites, international magazines, blogs and books.
The design process included: product-wise understanding of basic use and space; basic dimension understanding; sketches; final concept development; material and colour palette; technical drawings; creating templates; production; prototype refinement; and product documentation.
