diploma project
Classroom Furniture for IIM Udaipur
The brief was to design classroom spaces for IIM Udaipur. The first phase of the project started with studying existing planning of different classrooms, which also involved studying user requirements through discussions and surveys, studying pedagogical innovations and demands and various aspects of classroom planning. The second phase involved developing furniture for the proposed classrooms.

In proposed layouts, furniture was kept movable in order to facilitate multi-functionality by changing arrangements. To further facilitate mass production and reduce cost, it had to be made of minimum, easy-to-assemble and easily replaceable elements. Thus, combining these with local techniques, tables and chairs with a basic metal structure and removable upholstery were designed. Materials were chosen, keeping in mind locally available resources and production facilities. Here, furniture structural frames can be assembled in workshops, while upholstery can be stitched separately by local artisans.
