Rotomolded Sofa Cum Bed
The objective was to design an affordable, multifunctional- residential furniture to provide "comfortable living" for an enforced urban lifestyle of the middle class segment; with guidelines including mass manufacturing through Rotomolding, using LDPE (low density polyethylene) as material.

In residential spaces, it was observed that living rooms needed multifunctional furniture like sofa-cum-bed with storage to solve problems of congested space. The market study concluded that those available were uneconomical, due to lack of standardisation and were not fulfilling functional requirements like storage, separate sleeping space and comfortable seating. Those available were complex to access/operate, ergonomically poor, over-sized etc.

The final product has operable back-rest and storage space below the seat with gas lifts, integrated arm-rest with backrest, a box permitting seating, sleeping and storage. Standardisation in size and customisation in finishes such as texture and color was possible.
