Aise Mili Radha (Interactive Children Book)
Benaras, the holy city, also known as Varanasi or Kashi, has been a centre of learning and spirituality for nearly 3,000 years. The historic city is now facing a decline in its traditional crafts, with awareness and appreciation rapidly diminishing. The need of the hour is to make people aware of the community involved in making these artifacts. Children are increasingly disconnected from their cultural roots. With timely intervention, they can embrace traditional practices with a sense of pride.
The project involved developing a picture book, ‘Aise Mili Radha,’ to tell the story of wooden toy-making in Benaras for children aged 8 to 13. On a journey seeking his beloved Radha, Krishna meets several craftsmen and learns about the process of toy-making. The water colour illustrations highlight the important features of the wooden toys. The book hopes to play a small but significant role in representing these craftsmen and their dying art.
