Majhdhaar: An Animated Film Based on Rabindranath Tagore's 'Debotar Graash'
‘Majhdhaar’ is a collaborative, low-budget, animated short-film adaptation of a poem by Tagore. The onus is currently on honest stories from the country, furthering identity with visual quality and richness. The project turned to the strong literary heritage of India, while mindful of the modern-day affairs.
The ballad, speaks of a village pilgrim group journeying to Gangasagar in a time of powerful brahmins and rampant superstition. The story is about a village scarred by cruel land acquisition policies, which seems to have won the first round against the government, until a benevolent industrialist arrives with the offer of a pilgrimage for the impoverished villagers. The film examines whether the original power play and superstition is unidentifiable with the present.
Further, the objective was to bring synergy to 2D and 3D media styles to create a unique film that would illustrate the benefits of collaboration and content-driven creation.
