Now we have new generation of search engines which will not only return words, pictures but actually attempt to understand the meaning of our questions which can be the answered. Bing search is considered a step forward in the same direction. It is trying to help user to make their informed decisions by offering extensive search in various domains like Events, Weather, Autos, Travel and more. My diploma project looked at search engines from various points of view; from where it started and how it has arrived at its current position. Researching current and future trends, it follows a probable direction for future user experiences applying understanding from search domain, the system, user study and their requirements and user experience scenarios.
Initially the project was quite wide and then was narrowed down to match the need and time constraints. A number of concepts were generated and a few were narrowed down. Some of them were then refined and detailed out for the simplest way of information retrieval. The design solution suggested is the proof of one of the concept for future user experiences in ‘Events, Weather and Songs’ search domain. Although the search future and design is not known, I tried to envision it based on the ‘User Centered Design’ methodology. I managed to balance theory and practice in support with each other for better learning to gain industry knowledge. |
