My diploma project aimed at complete redesign of the user interface to create/view/ maintain a Bill of Materials (BOM). This is used by production planners involved in a supply chain manufacturing operation. The objective of the project was to incorporate Business Intelligence in the system and to improve its usability aspects. Knowing the users and the user environment was very crucial for the project. Since there wasn’t any direct feedback available from the users and due to business constraints, direct customer interaction wasn’t possible. Hence, identifying the stakeholders internal to the organization was very important. These stakeholders were a mix of people from different backgrounds to get a holistic picture on Bill of Materials. The designed solution provides the user a unified integrated interface to keep all the stakeholders on the same page. My learning at NID helped me a lot to work at SAP Labs. It was a wonderful learning at SAP Labs, not just from the point of view of diploma project, but also in terms of interaction with people. The Design team at SAP Labs has people from various backgrounds, it helped to look at a problem from various perspectives. The Design culture of sharing and learning also prevailed in SAP. |
