My diploma project was a research based study of User Experience on the emerging trends in e-commerce and social influence marketing and its impact on a niche Indian market. A cent-percent Indian e-commerce music retail company, Bajaao.com, was the part sponsor of the project. Part of the project was to incorporate a strategic new media redesign of their current website using the knowledge thus gained.
One of the most remarkable things visible in the new media revolution is change. Applications and devices that did not exist five years back have now regular and committed subscribers in hundreds of millions. It adapts to people’s behaviour and is a catalyst for behavioural change as well, acting as an extension to the human body and senses. What intrigued me is how the developments in user experience, the chance of living in the new media social networks and the changing media landscape have changed the face of e-commerce today even in the niche markets such as music retail. The social media landscape is not a steady structure but a constantly changing one. Complex relationships between different entities occur within the social network as opposed to the more or less isolated user within the website, which is Bajaao.com in this case. This project taught me many valuable things since it was based on user experience. I not only learnt the interface part but also to design user centric product. |
