The objective of my diploma project was to provide a proper play area for children as it has a major role in the development of a child. The brief of my diploma project was to design the play area for kids in Mount Burg and to develop a few ideas in the form of tangible products using ceramics and glass.
During the project, my top priority was kids and their overall development. I consulted a child psychologist, read books on the relevant topics and collected information on child development, their psychology and the effect of space and environment on them. To understand kids better, especially in play environment, I visited many places like schools, malls, play gardens, etc. and interacted with the kids as well as their parents and school teachers.
After collecting sufficient information and drawing inferences and inspiration from nature, I started identifying essential elements for the garden. The work of designing elements and developing alternate layouts went hand in hand. Few elements were designed according to a theme and the layout was initiated by placing the elements with the concerned activity. I made a complete layout of the garden and several initial concepts for the elements which were to be built either in ceramic or glass. After initial testing of the scale down model, original scale section was made to understand the detailing and the process possibilities in installation. Through this project I learnt to handle responsibilities and challenges while still enjoying the freedom of work. |
