My design brief was to develop a range of light related products and accessories for the higher income group keeping in mind the various opportunities and the theme voyages. In order to find opportunities for the brand, an intensive study of the brands’ present scenario with respect to the market was carried out. This formed the basis of my work and helped me understand the brand I was working for. I conducted a market survey in Delhi which helped me understand the present trend as well as the living culture, forms, products, and colours that were in demand. Most of the outlets I visited had done a wide range of innovations in lighting, accessories and furniture in order to gratify the customers. To get a better understanding of the northern region and Delhi being a cosmopolitan city, I carried out a comparative study of several stores in terms of their product range and the customer profiles. I selected a few words related to the market, user and the brand which further gave me a direction to come up with initial concepts.
The diploma project offered me a chance to explore and deal with the practical facets of the working of a system. This project made me understand the reality of design in the outside world and the process made me assess my own strengths and weaknesses thereby directing me to work on them for improvement in future. |
