This project was an attempt to innovate and create a language for Aranya Naturals through an in-depth research into the traditional Japanese craft of ‘Shibori’. The emphasis was on introducing a new dimension to the craft by experimenting with the techniques it traditionally employs. Geometry underpins each composition. Lines meander, circles spin and shapes cluster. Together they form a collection of works that express my design aesthetics through the traditions of Japanese textile craft. ‘Project 1’ is a collection of sarees designed for the festive and pre-festive season. It explores the play of vibrant contrasts, traditional yet contemporary patterns and striking yet detailed craftsmanship.
