My diploma project aimed at collating design practices and methods for the designers interested in setting up design studios. My client studio abd is in its early years of its establishment and thus undergoing a lot of internal and external pressure. It is time for it to lay down the foundation for the future growth. It was therefore essential for the members to try out as many systems as possible since the comfort level of the people working and the nature of work is very versatile.
It was important to understand and take examples from other established design studios and then to contextualize them for comfort. The systems needed not to be very complex. Later on as the organization grows depending on the strategy decided for the framework can be worked out and new features can be added. For this purpose I developed the framework of INDIAN DESIGN CURRY to perform the following functions:
• Creating design guidelines for internal process
• Methods of research
• Research analysis and strategic inputs
• Presentation templates and formats
• Role and responsibility transferred in design process and organizational structure
• Documentation and case studies
• Work flow for easy understanding for trainees
• Project management template
The project gave me the insight to understand how an organization can evolve from a single designer and helped me understand the processes that go into making it. |
