I did my diploma project with the educational and stationery products business of ITC where I worked towards engineering the transformation of the creative infrastructure (including people, products and processes) of the said organization.
The objective of my project was to facilitate transform the design infrastructure of the organization and gear it up to create a completely new product. I had to work towards ensuring a smooth transition from designing greeting cards to designing notebooks. Part of the objective was also to realign people, processes, resources and infrastructure and thereby help create a strong approach to design grounded in consumer understanding and to draft new process for the creation of new designs.
I followed the process of ‘looking inwards’ and ‘looking outwards’ to understand the producer/marketer, competitors and customer perspective, which was used to formulate the agenda for design development. Thus both primary and secondary research was carried out.
My immediate target audience included the designers, type setters, production and marketing professionals within the organization who had to be convinced about the transformation. My ultimate target audiences were the retailers, parents and students who sell, buy and use the notebooks.
The project provided me the experience of realigning the system and resources and working with a completely new product and learning the nuances that go into its design. I also gathered firsthand experience of designing a new product right from scratch. |
