Strategic Design Management exposed me to various subjects related to both Design and Business. It helped me understand how they can come together to create something new; better products, better services and better systems. My diploma project CrossfitOM is a case study of one such small business which has used design effectively to distinguish itself from the competition.
I took this idea to the most common business hub in India; the small businesses managing the transformational business focusing on innovation, or purposeful planned change. How can design help the business move towards its own new vision? Many creative ideas have developed in the course of business. But, unless these ideas have a viable business case they are unlikely to succeed. Whether looking inside or outside the organization, the goal of design resource is to support the objectives and values of an organization to meet the needs of the customers and to identify, create and promote opportunities for design. Successfully sowing the seed for design growth will rely on the ability to address a wide range of issues, balance various agenda and forge the way forward, often in partnership with other individuals, departments and organizations. Design adds value to a business, value which may not be always measured by the bottom line but by how customers perceive your brand. |
