My project aimed at developing and customizing a range of heating-cooling apparel called “ClimaGear”, integrating the ‘Climacon’ technology developed by Dhama Apparel Innovations, for multiple market segments.
The target audience for this apparel included outdoor workers, military personnel, and other sports enthusiasts who often perform in extreme heat conditions and they are often subjected to heat stress and other heat related medical ailments. Hot conditions lead to financial and personnel morale loss, and increases heat related health problems.
The products I designed were
ClimaGear - a jacket/vest that keeps the user comfortable and increases productivity by either heating or cooling the user depending on his need. ClimaGear is light weight quite, easy to use, fashionable and battery powered.
ClimaNeck - a cooling/heating accessory that can be worn on the Neck. It keeps the user comfortable and cools the blood reaching the brain therefore reducing the heat stress on the brain. ClimaNeck is battery powered light weight accessory .
ClimaMet - a light-weight cooling/heating battery powered helmet. It keeps the user comfortable and cools the entire head.
I am glad that I could blend my knowledge of apparel design into a functional product design exercise which broadened my repertoire further as a product designer. Winning the first prize in ‘India Innovation Pioneers Challenge 2008’ New Delhi and the US Visit to participate by invitation in the ‘Intel UC Berkeley Technology entrepreneurship challenge 2008’ at UC Berkeley, California USA have been exceptionally memorable experiences. The recognition for my design concepts has inspired me to continue further with innovative design measures. |
