My project focused on developing multiplayer online games that can be used to understand the concepts of mathematics learning.
The objectives of my project were to develop an exciting online multiplayer gaming solution delivering interactive games, through social networking sites which attempts to improve speed and accuracy by competition against other players. The intent was to make learning fun and collaborative and to take it beyond classroom instruction. It should also incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to address individual learning styles for a target audience of students of standard 5 to 10 of the CBSE boards.
After exploring a variety of concepts, my product of pride is titled ‘Hobbling Hoopzs’. It is a game developed in flash and can also be used in a mobile platform. The main aim of this game is to test a child’s understanding developed towards a topic once the concept is explained by the teacher. The topics covered in the game are ascending and descending numbers, even and odd numbers, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, roman numerals and estimation. I provided detailed interface wireframes and visuals. The focus is to practice math concepts and skills, assist in preparation for high-stakes assessments, and real-time competition of speed and accuracy of math skills.
I took full responsibility from the ideation stage to the implementation and release stage. My biggest learning is how to take a stand for my ideas as a designer, when working in a team which includes only technical people. The experience in quality assurance has added a whole new dimension to my learning. |
