For my project, I worked with Pantaloons Lifestyle, a lifestyle department with the product range of garments accessories, cosmetics and jewellery.
My project involved an in-depth study of visual merchandising through information collection and conducting observations at the stores, that is the Pantaloons Lifestyle store at Borivili and Lower Parel (Mumbai).
The study involved understanding the various dimensions of visual merchandising as a whole and simultaneously, customer study their interaction with the elements of visual merchandising (VM). During the observational phase, I also undertook a lot of tasks at store levels like window displays, color blocking, communication with the staff at the store, material sourcing, interaction with vendors, and an interaction with the store manager, customers and marketing staff too.
Along with the study and observations, I also undertook two VM projects. The first was the launch of a childrens’ clothing brand ‘Power Puff Girls’. The second was a promotional event titled ‘Sanskriti’ which involved designing a completely Indian festive display which was warm and welcoming. These were undertaken to practically understand and implement the concepts derived from my research phase.
My design deliverables included strategic solutions in areas where Pantaloons can invest in the development of the visual merchandising at the store.
My project has given me immense learning about the vast intricacies of visual merchandising from the design point of view and what role it can play in the growth of the retail sector attitudes by tapping into the chemistry between merchandise, customers and company and how design could enhance it. |
