The objective was to create a game based on cultural contexts of Ramanujan’s life. The goal was to create an artefact that would intersect contemporary and traditional worlds, using electronic arts as the medium.

The research phase offered insights into games as a medium for transmission of culture, and an understanding of different types of puzzles and board games. This led to heightened awareness of the true potential of games.

Some questions that arose during the design development concerned what could be classified as an ‘Indian’ game, and whether rasas could be extended to understand the creation of emotions in video games. The project also explored whether video games could be a medium for transmission of cultural information to contemporary audiences, whether a new series of Indian board games can be inspired by our rich history of game-making, and whether games can eventually be more than just entertainment.
