Biodiesel as an alternate fuel stands out amongst other environmentally safe fuels, specifically because its adoption does not require major modifications to the existing engines. While biodiesel may not be able to replace the entire supply of conventional source of energy, it could adequately serve a niche market well. While efforts are on to find other sources of fuel, biodiesel can be used now except that people aren’t aware of it.
Discussions and interviews with individuals from various fields related to alternate fuels helped shape the project by codifying the results into key words and phrases. It was the understanding that campaigns that attempt to communicate with the public at large could not be as successful as those that deal with smaller, more quantifiable audiences. User demographics were defined as the private bus operators.
The design problem which framed my project was simply that the information was new and needed to be disseminated in an effective way. Since the message needed to be persuasive, I chose film since it was a captivating medium. Also, since language was a potential barrier, I kept the information as visual as possible. This resulted in an infographic film made using paper cutouts and brought to life using simple editing techniques.
In this project, I learned that promoting a certain product cannot come at the cost of deceiving one’s audience. I am pleased that I made a conscious effort to provide the end users of the products with complete information to make their own decision. |
