I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to work with Ravissant, India’s premiere haute couture house for my project. I developed a sterling silver collection for children between 0-4 years of age, for rich families particularly in India, incorporating the technique of enameling within the products.
Suitably titled ‘Born with a silver spoon’, my collection follows the existing Ravissant language of luxury, elegance, minimalism, style, sophistication and its slogan “Every piece of Ravissant is a handcrafted masterpiece.”
I rendered uniqueness and excitement to the collection by adding diverse colors through enameling. The collection is to be marketed under the brand ‘Little Ravissant 09’. Each of the designs in my collection had at least one finished piece ready by the end of my tenure. I am thrilled that my entire collection will be showcased in the annual exhibition 2009 held by Ravissant in September. Based on critical reviews received from the clients in this exhibition, the pieces will be reproduced and sent to Ravissant’s showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi.
This was a fabulous learning opportunity in terms of learning how silverware is made extensively from a sheet of silver. The fact that Ravissant’s work is mainly handcrafted gave me the opportunity to experiment with aspects which would not have been possible with machines. I utilized all I have learned in the classroom in terms of practical applications, understanding client briefs, cost considerations, analyzing market trends and buyers’ psychology. This exposure allowed me to grow in confidence as a designer. |
