Today’s corporate world is rapidly changing resulting in increased pressures and deliverables. For my project, I developed an intelligent, economic system of tables for modern European offices which caters to these needs. The table system comprised the director’s table, conference table, manager’s table, board room tables, work stations, coffee tables and reception desks. These tables are flexible, expandable, mobile, dynamic and reflective of corporate identity.
The design process began with understanding the basics of European design, the pioneers and masters of European design and visiting famous design museums and exhibitions. I studied the historical evolution of tables right from history to contemporary times, the mechanisms of the table system and various technological developments. I also analyzed different standard brands in the European furniture market and case studies.
The process continued with an investigation of anthropometric and ergonomic conditions, and exploration of available materials and effective combinations of them. I came up with mood, inspiration and consumer boards based on European lifestyle.
The final design product resulted in simple, sleek, smart, minimalist workstations which have effective cable management systems, spaces for storage and filing, a tag board and a waste basket. I also worked on an additional redesigning project of Arco, the T-line chairs by redesigning the chair base and the armrests.
My project has given me an opportunity to understand manufacturing and processing related issues related to the practicality of design. I am also pleased to have had a breadth of exposure to various European cities and European design thinking. |
