AHALYĀ

The project aims at bringing a change in society. Whenever a girl is harassed, she is the one who is forced to keep quiet and keep her identity hidden. This project talks about transformation of identity because of sexual violence which takes place in our society.

It was taken forward with the reference of Ahalyā from Ramayana. How the story of a modern day girl is no less than that of Ahalyā. How any woman, irrespective of age is harassed and as a consequence, turns to stone and loses her true identity.

This photography project was more like a challenge as the content was to be decided very cautiously. I have used puppets as metaphors in my images, as they have a strong cultural connotation. Later, these images were projected on Ahalyā, who was created for this project. The final outcome is narration through set of 15 juxtaposed images.
