My diploma project was to create a comprehensive brand identity and complete style guide for an upcoming label, Mubhi. Mubhi is a high end exclusive brand aimed at those people from affluent families who have had their basic needs satisfied and are looking for things that reflect self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition and accomplishment. It is into ethnic business that shares and celebrates the Indian way of life through contemporary products and services as a symbol of expression for fusion of modernity and tradition. The objective of the project was to understand and articulate the ‘Indian’ design experience and how best it can be replicated into a new brand language so that it exuded Indian’s rich cultural past and also illustrated a future that it promises.
I started my project with understanding the brands which have a strong story behind them. Second step was to identify the core market area and visualize a model to serve those brands in the best manner which was followed by ideation, rough sketches, mood boards and brainstorming. Final end deliverables included complete style guide, related stationary, promotional material and website. The Project required me to draw inspiration from Indian culture and it opened my eyes to the immense volume of graphic design references which are present there. The richness and intricacy of our own culture seems to have lost out to its clean cut designs. |
