My sponsor RENAULT Design created a research and development project titled ‘Youth Trends and Mobility’ wherein the designer creates a design proposal for a mobility solution for the hidden dreams, visible aspirations and everyday needs of an increasingly important segment of the market – the ‘youth’, who are buyers of the future.
The ‘mobility solution’ is not necessarily a conventional car and is meant for the young single customer (approximately 18-23) years old. The assignment was to understand the desires of youth, their spending habits, their perceptions of life and give it the form of a mobility object.
I designed a futuristic car called ‘Concept Growth’ for my project. The core identity of this concept comes from the spiral form. 'Concept Growth’ is a single person mobility object which is not constrained to land or water. It can move on rails as a single person vehicle and can also be an off-roader, travel on sand or mud comfortably. It can also travel through water like a submarine with some minor changes. Since it is a futuristic concept, I have incorporated futuristic technology. Conveying the semantics of mobility (like motion, forward stance and expression) through an unusual form was challenging. Since the design language is inspired from a natural element ‘creeper’ which has both functional and aesthetic meanings, fusing both meanings into a single strong identity was a very interesting exercise.
My mind has expanded through the ideation required to blend all the parameters of youth dreams, existing technology, future technology, upcoming aesthetics and considerations of affordability into a mobility solution. |
