Tiles have now ceased to be utilitarian products and have become luxury products with evolving trends and lifestyles. I undertook two projects. While the sponsor’s brief was specific, there was considerable freedom to experiment within the constraints of the budget.
The objective of the tile project was to create surface designs for 22 terraces of Residenza, a property the client was developing for high-end consumers.
Since the sponsor is committed to eco-friendly and green endeavours which comprise its brand identity, I took these into account. I tried to play with the mood at the terrace considering the environment in which it was present, the activities which took place there and the ambience which was required.
The second project (interactive installations) centered around creating visual components with inclusion of a feature which will guide users’ movement within a complex space. A requirement of signage system was merged with this initial idea, giving it a term ‘interactive installations’.
These permanent installations were to break the monotony of rigid lines used in the architecture of building. At the same time, they were to enhance the different spaces. The essence of the activities taking place at the terrace were captured in two concepts:
1. Tranquility-Rhythm and 2. Senses
This was the first time that I got to work with architects, engineers, and also laypeople.
Balancing all their views led me to acquire skills in consensus building. Visits to the site also helped me visualize space and interiors better. The diversity in both projects and in my approach held my interest throughout the project period. |
